Day 1

This is not the first time that I've done the master cleanse (mastercleanse.org) but the first to document it. Mainly for my benefit and obvious record of the journey. For those that do not what this is, it is a type of cleanse consisting of a lemon based juice and laxative aids to aid in your bowel movements. People use it to lose weight, detoxing, habit, and other reasons. These are my reasons:

  • Reseting my eating habits. Having done this cleanse before, you feel a renewed commitment to eating healthier.
  • Losing weight. If you look at the diet trends in the last decades, every 5 years we have something new to try. This cleanse helps you reduce weight but by no means a permanent way to keep it off. Healthy habits and lifestyle choices are what truly matters, I see this as an initiation to begin to make those habits again.
  • Opposing the trend. The latest label I've seen in weight management fads is Eat Less, Lose Less or something like, just do more exercising, while at the same time fasting is also becoming a popular method. I've done both, and because I tried this fasting method before, I'm going to try. This is variant of that method.
  • A test of discipline. I think that the overcoming of our own limits and putting ourselves through things we deem hard is a great way to gain perspective and maturity. Food for me is something I deeply love and enjoy, so by giving it up for the next 10 days I will test myself in the discipline it takes to follow through.
That's it for now. Today is day one, I've had my last solid food last night. I will record my weight each morning to record physical progression and this blog/journal will help with dealing with the psychological aspects of the process. I expect these next two days to be hard but after that I know that things change.

This morning's weight: 214 lbs.
Waist measurement: 41 in.
